The Stonemason's Gauge and the Acceptance of the Incomplete Fit

The productivity is not in the grand, sweeping effort to close the entire gap at once. It is in the small, iterative act of 'trying the fit.' Write the clumsy paragraph. Build the rickety prototype. Then, step back. Don't look at the whole messy thing and despair. Identify the single biggest point of friction, the one element that, if adjusted, would most improve the stability of the whole. Work only on that. Then try the fit again.

The completed arch gains its strength not from the perfection of any one stone, but from the way each stone, with its unique and slightly imperfect shape, locks against its neighbors, distributing the load. Your project will gain its strength from the same principle.
